Bangkok, Thailand has just been ranked as the second-best city in the world and the best city in Asia to work for Digital nomads. The ranking was done by ‘The Instant Group’ a UK-based flexible working solution provider.
“It is a great honor for Bangkok and Thailand to be recognized in such a way as a city with modernity, connectivity, and affordability. This also helps TAT reach its goal for the ‘2022 Amazing New Chapter campaign to grow the Digital Nomad travel sector” said Mr.Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor.
Why and how is Bangkok ranked as the no.2 best city in the world?
The scoring for the ranking was done on the main key factors of the city, in which Bangkok was scored highly on affordability, internet speed, weather, transportation, and natural scenery. In the global ranking of 80 cities for digital nomads, the total score of Bangkok is second only to Lisbon, Portugal, and it is one of the only 2 cities in Asia to be in the survey of top 10 cities around the world, with Seoul, Korea in the 7th place.
Bangkok is a well-suited city for digital nomads from these main following factors:
- More than 15,000 high-speed Wi-Fi hotspots
- One of the lowest-priced accommodations available globally
- Excellent local cuisine and street food
- Weather – Sunshine all year round
- Natural scenery – Mountains, beaches, forests, and local attractions
Many globally famous Thai cities offer an ideal setup for digital nomads alongside Bangkok, such as Chiangmai, Phuket, Pattaya, and Samui.
Digital nomad current situation
Research has shown that there are approximately 35 Million digital nomads globally and is predicted that the nomadic workforce will account for 1 nomad : 3 employees. With improving technology, it complements remote workplace culture and remote working and by 2035, it is thought that the number could reach one billion.
What is the main concern living in Thailand?
To perfect your long-term digital nomad life in Thailand, one most important factor is that you should be able to stay and work in Thailand with the least amount of hassle possible, and one of the most annoying problems is always about a ‘What type of visa should I use?’. Sure, it is easy to come to Thailand and stay for 30-60 days, but if you are planning to have Thailand as your main working location for long, then you will require some other types of visas. Being a digital nomad, you can’t obtain a Business visa (Non-Immigrant B) as that would require you to be a full-time employee. An education visa also works, but then you will have to participate in classes that you may not want to. A volunteer visa is available, but many volunteer visas were issued on a non-existing / made-up foundation, and that may cause problems for your future stay due to Immigration office restrictions.
